(Thread) In 2017 we did an awesome roadtrip to #Iceland
As time was too short to see it all, we went back to the South-West part in 2018 https://twitter.com/Bart47234384/status/1239645064948781058

My (75 years old) mom also saw the pictures & video's and also got the taste of it. As she likes to hike (she hiked in Nepal just a couple of years earlier), we booked the most amazing #Laugavegur hike with @ArcticAdventure close to summer solstice in 2019.
Between booking and taking the trip however, she was diagnozed with breast cancer, operated on that and pronounced cured. She managed to be fit for the trip before we left luckily. Let's share some of the highlights in photos
First couple of nights we stayed in a #Reykjavik hotel close to #Hallgrimmskirkja (click, portrait) #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
The #SunVoyager / #Sólfar artwork at the waterfront of #Reykjavik #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
#Harpa music & theather building constructed around the banking crisis of 2008, now a beautiful modern building with many nice details, free to visit many parts #Reykjavik #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Interior views of #Harpa (click) #Reykjavik #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
#Hallgrímskirkja seen through the windows of #Harpa. One is portrait, the other landscape #Reykjavik #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
As this picture of #Hallgrímskirkja was taken at July 1st, there is is plenty of daylight up North, some 250 km below the arctic circle. The time is 21:40 hours. #Reykjavik #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
The next day it was time for the #GoldenCircle tour, showing my mum basically #Iceland in a nutshell. This beautiful old Jag we found at an eco friendly tomato greenhouse powered by geothermal energy #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
They drilled about 40m deep to get free 90°C water for free to heat the greenhouse. Even sunflowers grow in and outside of the greenhouse #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Next stop: #Geysir / #Reykjadalur where a lot of heat gets escapes the ground in the form of smelly steam and boiling mud #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
#Geysir / #Reykjadalur is one of the most crowded tourist attractions. If you drive your own (rental) car, consider visiting early morning or in the evening when there are no tourist busses #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Different stages of eruption of #Strokkur, near #Geysir / #Reykjadalur. It erupts every 8 minutes or so #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
View from the mountain next to #Geysir. The fog on the 2nd picture is actually the spray from the #Gullfoss waterfall which is just a couple of km further down the road. #Reykjadalur #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
An eruption from #Strokkur #Geysir nearby. The actual Geysir is just 20m from this one but it does not erupt any more. #Reykjadalur #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
A bit further down the road from Geysir is #Gulfoss waterfall, the water originates from the 2nd largest glacier of #Iceland, #Langjökull. Also crowded here as can be seen on the left. #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
The first fall & Hand held long exposure of the 2nd fall of #Gulfoss waterfall, #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Last stop of the #GoldenCircle tour is #Thingvellir, one of #Iceland's highlights in my opinion. Tectonically, the water flows from America (right) to Europe & Asia (left) in a 20 m wide and 20m high canyon #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Not much water coming from America at that moment. #Öxarárfoss #Thingvellir #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
At #Thingvellir you can see clearly how #Iceland grows some 2 cm every year for 18 million years already #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Politics in #Iceland also started in #Thingvellir where the 'lawmaker' would stand on a hill and read the new laws to the deputies around the country #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Back in #Reykjavik we met a businessman who clearly had a heavy dinner #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
Some clues why I went to #Iceland 3 years in a row https://twitter.com/IcelandNatural/status/1270791943082180610
Opposite to city hall is Hotel Borg, an Art Deco style hotel #Reykjavik #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour

The next day, the bus trip to #Landmannalaugar. A vehicle like this would transport luggage between mountain huts. Tyre pressure can be adjusted from within the cabin. #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour
#Iceland has many extreme landscapes, steam, boiling mud, glaciers, waterfals, black sand beaches, vast lava fields. This can all be seen on the flatlands and along the ringroad. Going into the highlands can be like driving to another planet compared to the previous. #F225 #Hekla
Arrival at #Landmannalaugar, the start of our @ArcticAdventure #Laugavegur tour staying 2 nights here first. Blue skies, The date is July 2nd so close to summer solstice, it's my 3rd time here: The world is just perfect. #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
#Landmannalaugar (pearl of the highland) is located in the #Torfajökull caldera and is the largest rhyolite area in the world. There are rivers, geothermal activity & pool and #Laugahraun lava field (543 years old) with a lot of #obsidian #Iceland #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
An afternoon hike from #Landmannalaugar North to #Ljottipollur. On the horizon of the 3rd image is the 2nd largest glacier of #Iceland, #Langjökull at about 85 km distance #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland
An afternoon hike from #Landmannalaugar North to #Ljottipollur #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland @ArcticAdventure
Arrival at #Ljottipollur crater, which is about 1.3 km long. The river at #Landmannalaugar flows around this crater in a beautiful fashion #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland @ArcticAdventure
I didn't expect #Ljottipollur crater to be so photogenic, but it is ! WHen you travel the #F208 or #F225, this is on your route. (panorama, click needed) #Landmannalaugar #Fjallabak #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland @ArcticAdventure
The #drone gives a better view of the beautiful rivers around #Ljottipollur (panorama, click needed) #Landmannalaugar #Fjallabak #Iceland #POTD #Stormhour #ThePhotohour @Extreme_Iceland @ArcticAdventure

The glacier on the horizon in the 1st image is #Vatnajökull, the largest galcier of Europe (8100 km2)
