A big problem in the furry community right now is that a bunch of people are taking a fandom about individualism and trying to find idols.
There are no "canon" furries, no main cast!
Your favorite fursona should be your own.
Appreciate people, but stop worshiping strangers!

I think some people might be getting the wrong message out of this. The problem isn't necessarily people being popular, or the popular people themselves.
The problem is the people doing the idolizing and worship.
Make real friends, not one-sided parasocial relationships.

The only bad thing I can say about "popular" people themselves, is that sometimes loud, egotistical, or cut-throat people tend to rise to the top of any crowd, so fairly often, you find out your idols are bad people, or manipulative. Sometimes, that's how they got there.
Just as often, popular folks have massive followings because they are talented or interesting. They're funny, they make good art, they produce content, or they have a cute character design or fursuit.
Nothing wrong with thinking someone's cool! But you don't need to worship.

It's natural for crowds to gather around anyone interesting, or anyone that produces content. However, there's a gap between appreciation and obsession.
Just relax, make a presence for yourself, be a person, be nice, and you'll make friends. Real ones. You'll be happier.
