Mental health is looked at as a "workplace hazard" for creatives.

That's the unfortunate truth.
We are looked at as providers, not consumers. The honus to perform and entertain is on us to deliver something new and exciting -- every single day.

Constantly chasing a high from fans loving your content is irreplicable. Nothing can give you that same feeling.
& I get it, this isn't complaining - No. It's spreading awareness on an issue that is often forgotten. We, as creatives, need to take care of ourselves because we don't know how this is going to affect us in the future.

It's already affecting us now.
So what're the long-term effects of being in this new age of media & content creation?

The answer? We don't know. We are seeing an unrelenting need for new content to entertain our audiences. Whether you work at a college program, pro org., or media co., that pressure is there.
Pressure to constantly entertain an audience is exhausting. It's not *new* per se, but it's taken on a whole different level of power, esp recently.

Fans are feigning day-in-day-out for new content to fulfill their entertainment needs & us as creators are on the hook to deliver
With access to content 24/7, people are getting bored faster than ever before. They expect something new every day. It's not their fault. It's how the age of social media has conditioned them.

That rush of dopamine is more often, but less powerful nowadays.
This has been going on for years in the entertainment industry. Musicians, Artists, Performers -- the stress of constant entertainment isn't new, it's adapted.

Now, content creators and sports creatives are feeling similar pressures and stresses.
IMO, this is going to lead to a sudden increase in mental health issues with creatives, namely: Depression, Bipolar, and Addiction.

Personally, I'm already feeling the effects of Depression & having to deal with that daily i.e. starting therapy, trying to help myself, etc.
I'm sure some of you are going to say I'm complaining and that there are worse things out there to be doing -- You're right, there are. But I'm not doing those things, I'm doing this & this is what I feel every single day. It's not wrong to want to improve your situation.
I leave you with this: Take that break. Take that vacation. Shut off your phone. It doesn't matter what you do but you truly need to be able to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else. It's cliche, but it's true.

DM's are always open. Much love ❤️
P.S. I'd love to start a Slack Channel, Discord, etc. that focuses on these issues where we can all meet and talk about things we are facing in our positions. Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in!

Love yinz ❤️
