I've signed this collective response from @DeakinArtsEd colleagues to the University's Major Workplace Change proposal. I started working at @Deakin 7 yrs ago, pretty much straight out of my PhD... https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pQlK9E8Tomlau4mNvEGnEFKuelN_pC0WLTSSZyWPnN0/edit
Until very recently, I have felt incredibly fortunate to work at @Deakin. I have fantastic colleagues, the research culture felt vibrant, strong. I loved that I worked somewhere that valued access to education for all - first in family, regional communities etc. Not an elite Go8.
When I was made permanent last year after years of contract positions, I was over the moon, not just because of the security it offered (which I know I am so privileged to have) but because @Deakin felt like somewhere I had a future in, somewhere I wanted to be and help build.
It's been demoralising to see the culture of an institution that me & my colleagues have given so much to, damaged in such a short amount of time. I'm heartbroken for @Deakin colleagues facing Spill & Fills and forced redundancies when other, less traumatic options are available.
I'm hoping @Deakin will value the people and relationships - staff, students, community - that have made this a great place to work and study. There are better options. We are stronger together.
