Something that's bothering me today that doesn't have to do with race or the pandemic. The Civil War world is all geeking out because a few historian types with the CWT "found" a new map showing all the Antietam burial locations. Which is really cool. But...
They "found" it on a digitized archive (NYPL to be specific). They didn't find shit. An archivist found it. Cataloged it. Digitized it. These guys were the folks who just stumbled into the website first.
I know we've all been excited about "finds" in the archive. And sometimes they are "finds" - things that nobody had really cataloged before. But come on. Somebody scanned this. They just chose not to publicize it.
Please don't Christopher Columbus stuff you find on the internet. Come on now.
