Is the notion that Apple should do away with the 30% fee based on Apple’s size / market cap? I’m confused as to why anyone thinks the iOS distribution model should be free especially for apps that intend to charge a fee.
It’s pretty simple. It’s free if your app is free. It’s 30% if your app charges a fee. If you don’t want Apple taking a fee, dont charge a fee. Afterall, if you don’t think they should cover costs of their services, why should you?
Also, do end users really care about a 30% fee? We’re talking single digit dollars here. It’s negligible. Why make it an issue?!? People are salivating for a new email service — clearly they’ll pay a bit more for it.
Also - now would be a very good time for several more new email services also innovating on UX with different business models to come out. Who’s working on these?
