I get this surprisingly A LOT for this game.
In short:
- I love puzzles
- I love artsy bullshit
- I love using swords to kill creatures 50 times my size
But, to get into it further... (thread) https://twitter.com/gameguygrover/status/1273313397229191168

Shadow of The Colossus is the game for me during the PS2 era that was so atypical in its story, game design, and how those two things interwove that it made me (a very young Bless) take a step back. It was (and for me, remains) a VERY refreshing experience.
Nothing feels like filler
- The world is empty
- There are like 3 characters (not counting the horse nor colossi)
- There's no side quests
But it all works. It works because it all adds focus to Wander's journey, a quest shrouded in mystery that we blindly accept as the player.

The game does such a good job of bringing us along for that ride. We don't know who the girl is, where we are, or what we're doing. We just know we gotta kill some beasts. The way that all unravels as you progress is done beautifully imo.
Not to mention, visually the game was and is (through the PS4 version especially) stunning. The design of the creatures and world is dope. The soundtrack is off the chain. There's a vibe the game has.
That's just a quick Twitter thread version of why I love the game. I know plenty of games have done what its done, and I don't think it's the end all be all. BUT it does hold a special place for me for these reasons. I don't hold it against anyone who doesn't vibe with it tho.
