But an interesting takeaway when you look into these figures is that the number is often artificially inflated. There’s a few reasons for that:

Now given that we know many police services aren’t actually processing rape kits and have massive backlogs- this means nothing other than ‘due investigation has not been carried out’. You see the issue here?

TPR, or when someone calls because they suspect a crime has been carried out, frequently ends In one of these null verdicts. Especially in cases of domestic abuse. Friends or family who are concerned can make a report on your behalf which the police need to record.
So let’s do the math.
