If I may offer any consolation to those of you worried of getting into games...do know that those of us in it are more aware of problems and angrier than ever before. We're working hard to make this a welcome and inclusive environment. There are amazing safe spaces we've built!
There are mentorship schemes for underrepresented genders @LBMentorship which is now open to students too. 2020 applications just finished so keep an eye out for 2021.
There are organisations like @pocinplay running various initiatives and programmes to highlight work made by people of colour as well as open the door to the industry to them.
Another great space for networking for black developers/gamers is @leveluplinkup so please check them out.
#BAFTACrew @BAFTAGames opens up their applications every year for those with 2-5y in the industry. You receive access to roundtables, talks, and various other talks at events.
Another fantastic organisation aimed to support black women through offering networking opportunities and development of skills is @codingblackfems
Another great summer program for girls aged 8-18 is @GirlsMakeGames
Group encouraging diverse talent into games is @BAMEinGames and you should go to their events
For great social events that are not centered around drinking but are actually fun and creative follow @GELondon2019
A chill monthly Discord hangout sesh open to all of under-represented genders in games is @SavePointSocial
There is much more out there and I've barely scratched the surface so do know we're working actively on changing this very young industry for all of you as well as us! We've experienced and learned from the awful stuff and have your back. Harassment does not belong here.
