We've been out counting bikes again - this time near Dock Park to see what's happening with cycling (and walking) in the town and the figures are impressive! https://cyclingdumfries.wordpress.com/2020/06/24/building-on-the-bike-boom/
In six hours on Saturday (10-4) we counted 900 pedestrians and wheelchair users, and 286 cyclists - 8% riding e-bikes. 30% of the cyclists were female, and 25% children, including plenty of teens riding independently
At the peak, on average, two people were using the Dock Park crossing every minute - which considering it can take over a minute to cross if you follow the green man, meant inevitably the crossing got crowded with people avoiding the middle island.
The numbers on the Whitesands are making it hard for cyclists and pedestrians to comfortably share the path - many cyclists are using the car parks to leave space for pedestrians on the official path. Luckily the car parks are still empty but for how long?
