/ The website suggests it is linked to the Government ( http://gov.sa ). However, it is essentially, a press outlet, with bias & an agenda. We must keep that in mind when reading.
/ From the outset, it distorts the proper findings of the WTO Report, and seeks to elaborate on the arguments they presented to the panel (disregarding that generally, they were not accepted).
/They go on to say concerns re IP/piracy can be raised through their email system run by SAIP - Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property. SAIP describes its aims as;"to organize, support, sponsor, protect & promote IP in the Kingdom in accordance with global best practices".
/Now, you don't need to be a lawyer for me to tell you an email system is unlikely to be considered a proper method for investigation and law enforcement. I understand from reading @JacobsBen thread on the subject (which I agree with) that emails are not generally responded to.
/ However, what this short article does do, is demonstrate that piracy/IP issues, as well as the WTO report are at the forefront of KSA's mind.
/ The fact they felt compelled to respond via a government connected website (alongside other news banners on relating to HRH Crown Prince activities) and to set out their procedures and ongoing commitments demonstrates this isn't a throw away matter for KSA.
/ So, in conclusion: yes its biased, its defensive and it is political propaganda, but it is clear from it that the Saudi's are now, more than ever, responding to IP / piracy concerns publicly (progression in itself), & they "affirm the continuation" of efforts to combat piracy.
/Obviously they interpreted the WTO report with their own agenda/ views in mind. Donât we all get defensive & repeat our own arguments/skew results we don't like? There have been plenty of articles from both sides imitating the ruling is a win for them.
/ Ultimately, although this ongoing takeover saga is grinding us all down, I fail to see why this article causes such a meltdown. This article, and I suspect many still to come, don't have any impact it, in my view.
