This seems to upset a lot of my fellow conservatives so let me propose a contrary perspective.

This is a sign that the program is working and is not a design flaw. We do not want people earning less just because we shut down the economy to fight coronavirus. https://twitter.com/LizAnnSonders/status/1275798219415527427
In fact, we ideally want people to earn more during the covid-recession because that supports demand, accelerates the recovery, limits the collateral damage of unemployment, and helps people pay for additional expenses from social distancing lifestyle adjustments.
What's more, the people who have lost jobs or income because of the shutdowns deserve to be compensated with extra-income because they have been disproportionately harmed by our public policy.

We benefited--lower infections--at their expense.

They should be compensated.
Refusing to compensate those who lost their jobs due to the shutdowns is equivalent to a BAILOUT of those who kept their jobs. The profits--our incomes--remain privatized, while the costs are socialized.

The correct outcome here is what enhanced benefits achieved.
