Alright, I've eaten and hydrated. It's time to dive into the toxic and abusive culture of rampant sexual misconduct at Ubisoft.
I want to start by saying that a majority of people speaking out wish to remain anonymous because the level of fear most of these victims and employees feel is so high that some have chosen not to offer full details or mention the abusers by name. This is not just 1 or 2 bad men.
First up is Maxime Beland. Creative VP at Ubisoft Toronto. I spoke to 4 different employees about him and his issues ranging from drunken violence towards female employees and several forms of sexual harrassment. Below is some information about this man shared anonymously.
Beland who is known for being the director behind the last 2 Splinter Cell games left the company and several employees were extremely upset that he never faced any repercussions. Imagine how they must've felt when he re-joined the company in 2019 with an even higher title.
Also two employees mention how futile bringing up his actions would be because his wife worked in the HR department. There was no trust that corrective action would be taken about his behavior. Meghna also mentions this below: https://twitter.com/betterthemask/status/1275489645019762689
Not only was Maxime's wife in HR when the aforementioned physical assault took place, she eventually became the co-studio director with an official title of Associate Managing Director.
Another anonymous account of intimidation and inappropriate moments involving Maxime and other employees. This is a systemic issue and people have come to expect complacency from HR.
More details on the event where Maxime strangled a female employee. Including leadership forcing her to reconcile with her abuser the very next day.
I want to take a moment to also bring up that Andrien aka Escoblades who I have a separate thread about, also mentioned other employees to women he was involved with. He knew about misconduct involving men at Ubisoft studios and used it as a way to prop himself up as a protector
You can find my thread on Andrien here. Unfortunately, I still have more stories to add when it comes to him including accounts of him sending unsolicted dick pictures and Trigger Warning: killing a woman's cat in a washing machine... https://twitter.com/DennyVonDoom/status/1275150404561580032
