I’m 200% behind Black Lives Matter as a movement, sentiment and phrase to live by. The organisation? I’m not so sure yet.
When fighting for the equal treatment of black people it’s easy to get caught up in the emotions of the fight without remembering we all have different priorities. If we all ran BLM we’d have different ideas on how to reach our goal. Think Martin and Malcolm.
And that’s okay.
And that’s okay.
Am I a fan of BLM the organisation? I’m not sold yet. Only having one stand out group with such a powerful phrase can make some think not agreeing with the organisation means not wanting equal treatment lol far from the truth. It’s more a question of ‘how’.
There’s way too many
There’s way too many
factors for us to think this is something all black people will agree on lol We’re not a monolithic group, we think differently. What do we prioritise? Economics? Politics? Social? Etc How do we respond to PB, Violent? Non-Violent? Do we create a party or influence one etc
We are all united in our want for equal treatment. Not in our ‘how’ and that’s okay.
The marches and tweets we are bound to be united in. How to do the work? We’ll differ in ideas and even dislike each other’s methods.
That’s okay.
Keep fighting.
