OK. DEEP BREATH. First of all. Jessica Simpson was a size 4 here, and 120 lbs, literally not obese by any medical system. BUT that doesn't even matter because publicly shaming gorgeous women for how they look does not reduce chronic obesity. It just does not. You can't tell someone's health from how they look. Someone can be fat, and work out every day and be healthy. Someone can be skinny and smoke and eat garbage and their body could be collapsing from the inside.
Let's say you just happen to be a public health professional, and you GENUINELY want to reduce obesity in the population. Do you know what *doesn't* work? Shame and humiliation. It scientifically will not make people skinner, if that is your ultimate goal for some reason.
We don't publicly shame or humiliate diabetics, or people with other existing medical conditions. So why do you think it's appropriate to shame someone for how they look, which MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH HOW "HEALTHY" THEY ARE?
There are so many genuine public health issues in the world, and so many SYSTEMIC reasons people can't live their healthiest lives, so let's start with food deserts, poverty, and education before we focus on whether Jessica Simpson looks bad in high-waisted jeans. FIN.
