Keeping cool, Koda style -
There was a chat yesterday about keeping dogs cool, so thought I would make a thread and what we do with the floofiest of dogs.
First up is a treat ice cube, its got dog treats, cucumber and carrot, normally put a dollop of coconut oil in but we have run out, freeze it and then, ta dah, cool, tasty and exciting. The gift that keeps giving.
I love licki mats, and generally working for food, its great enrichment for Koda and uses up some energy. Fish4Dogs do salmon and trout mousses which are perfect, but mostly we just use his normal food and smoosh it in and freeze for meal times.
Snuffle mats, not necessarily cooling, but to expel energy that you would normally use on a walk, sniffing uses more breaths per minute than walking. Koda paces around and won't settle down making him hotter, so we use snuffle mats and find it games.
Barely defrosted bones, chicken wings are a fave. Obvs never give cooked bones and always supervise.
Frozen towels, get em damp, roll them up and freeze them, they might lay with them, they might not, also great for teething puppies as are frozen carrot and cucumber sticks. Carrots are great cheaper dental stick alternatives too.
Being a damn superhero and wearing a cape of cool, he has grown a bit now and wouldn't let me. Take a photo yesterday without pulling it off 😂 just a towel dunked in cold water and draped on him, also put some on the floor.
We have a paddling pool for him too, we have the hard shell ones because he is a chewer (only his things thankfully) but you can get little collapsable ones, he walks in, gets his paws wet and then goes lay in the shade 😂 normal dogs lay in it.
We also spray down his tummy, I would spray him down, but he would legit hate me.
He can't have a cool mat because he shark chomped the one we tried, so I just freeze a litre bottle of water and wrap it in a towel like an ice pack.
There are probably tons more that I can't think of, I can't relax when its this hot because I worry about him 😂
Oh frozen water bottle behind a fan, works for dogs and people.
