This month, three pet stores (Petland in Iowa City, Pet Mart in Davenport, and The Bird Cage in Council Bluffs) in Iowa received non-compliant inspections for failing to provide a solid resting spaces and having rusty and jagged cages.
The state implemented new rules in January and notified all state licensees that the changes would be enforced on June 8th of this year. They had six months to make these minor improvements to show that they care about the welfare of the dogs they sell.
These pet stores sell puppies for THOUSANDS of dollars, but they couldn't be bothered to make sure they provide solid resting places or safe cages for puppies. Heaven forbid they spend a little bit of that money on the dogs.
These store owners all say, "We care about our puppies! We only work with the best breeders! We're regulated so you know you're getting a good puppy!"
The stores aren't complying with state mandated MINIMUM standards of care and housing. Makes you wonder what else they aren't complying with.
Why aren't Iowa's pet stores meeting minimum standards of care requirements per @IADeptAg inspectors?
