All lives matter. There I said it. I said it because it is true. And to think anyone involved in the BLM movement thinks otherwise is foolish. All lives do matter. Although it should really say All Lives SHOULD Matter. Because let's be honest, except for when we needed them to
all lives have not mattered. Sure, black lives mattered when we need their votes or needed them to build our country with free labor. But even then, their lives did not matter in the same way that white people did, at least not to a lot of white people. What if instead on the
signs and shirts etc. it said Black Lives Also Matter, or Black Lives Matter Too? Would that make you feel better? Because that is the point they are trying to make I believe. They are saying “Look, we want you to see that our lives matter just as much as anyone else’s.” And
when you counter with All lives matter, what you are really saying is either you don’t see that it has ever been any other way or you just refuse to acknowledge that has been always been the case. When you say you don’t see color, what you are saying is you do not see them. For
you see, as a member of the oppressors you do not get to determine the language the oppressed get to use. Well, you do or at least have for long enough. Now you will surely counter with “I am not oppressing anyone.” And you may not be…directly. But as long as you continue to
support the very system that is in place that was built on that oppression and still shows remnants of it today, you are oppressing indirectly. If the language that is being used is making you uncomfortable then that means it is working as intended. You should be uncomfortable
Everyone should be uncomfortable with a system that allows systemic racism and oppression to exist. I get it. Most people agree racism is bad and therefore you cannot possible be a racist because you aren’t a bad person. you do not have to be an openly hood wearing KKK member
to continue to contribute to a system that allows and in fact encourages racism on many levels. As a white person you have the privilege to proclaim you are not a racist while enjoying all of the benefits that system has allowed you. So the next time you feel the need to counter
Black Lives Matter with All Lives Matter, think about why you really are feeling the need to do that. Is it because you do not fully understand what is being said when they say Black Lives Matter? Is it because you are a racist? Is it because you are so afraid of the system that
has been in place for so long changing for the betterment of everyone? For you see, it is not a zero-sum game. Equality does not mean your rights are taken away, it means people who have not enjoyed those benefits finally get to the same as you have So again, if you are offended
by the term Black Lives Matter or feel the need to counter with the ALM, ask yourself why.
