THFC SQUAD 20/21 THREAD

I wanted to do a thread on Spurs' squad for the 20/21 season.

I'm not a "master tactician" but I wanted to get my thoughts on the starting 11 and potential ins and outs for next season.

Most importantly, all opinions are my own.
I would love to hear your opinions too, this is just how I envision our 20/21 summer window going and what our squad will look like come the first match.

Knowing how tight money will be might sadden some people, but this is just what I think will realistically happen.
GK - Lloris

Might not be what everyone wants to hear right now, but with the limited transfer funds we have, Lloris is our best option at GK.

Out of all the positions that we need depth/replacements for, GK is not one of them, at least not yet.
RB - Aurier

Another controversial choice. I know that some would like to see Norwich's Aarons here, but I think that transfer will cost too much.

Serge isn't "sexy" but he fits the RB role that Mou wants - bombarding down the wing. Once he gets his errors out of him, he's (1/2)
A great player at the core. The RB position in this system is just one of the key components where Mou needs someone that fits the position well - I think Serge is just that. It's not a dire position to fill, unlike some others... (2/2)
RCB - Dier

Wow, he might actually have found his position. In the two games since the restart, I think Dier has been fantastic (albeit for the penalty against Pogba). He's becoming a real vocal leader for this side and I only see him improving.
LCB - Gabriel

The first transfer that I could see would be for Lille's Gabriel. He's a left footed CB that's improving fast. He's been at the heart of the Lille defense this past season and really seems to be coming into his own.

He's only 22, so there is a bit of rawness (1/2)
to him, but that's to be expected. Under Mou, I could really see him become a staple of our back 4 and form a great partnership with Dier. My only concern is there are a lot of other teams looking at him right now, a lot of competition for the Brazilian's signature. (2/2)
LB - Davies

When Mou arrived at Spurs, he singled out Davies stating that he was a key component of the way he wanted to play. With Davies dropping in as a LCB to form a back 3 in attack, it clearly shows how Mou wants to play. I personally don't see Sess playing (1/2)
in this system that well, unless the RB tucks in. Aurier won't be the player to do that, so it all depends on Foyth or Tanganga (both I will get to later) being in the side. Davies is another player I can see improving, I only wonder how long he will be at Tottenham for. (2/2)
DM - Hojberg

This position was tricky for me. I know that in past teams, Mou has played a 4-3-3, with a holding midfielder who is key to the side. If only Mou had been here when 16/17 Wanyama was a key figure, I feel he'd slot in perfectly with what Mou is trying to do (1/3).
For the amount of money that we currently have though (and with KWP potentially being used in a swap deal) I could see Hojberg joining spurs in the summer. The player has said that he wants to play at a higher level, and if Spurs can get into Europe, that's something we can (2/3)
offer him. He's not the flashiest player, but a DM really shouldn't be. I've watched Saints games and seen just how composed he is on the ball and without it, just how great his awareness is. Under Mou, he would be excellent shielding the back 4. Plus, he'd be inexpensive. (3/3)
RCM - GLC

He's a great player, isn't he? There isn't much to say other than that. He's something that can run the show. His playmaking and attacking are great, but his work rate in defense is something that really shocked me - he's an absolute workhorse. His ability to (1/2)
start counter-attacks from winning tackles (I.E. Alli's goal against Norwich) and his driving runs out of our own third (I.E. Son's goal against The Saints) show that we have a player on our hands. He's beginning to gel with Kand more, which makes me excited for next season (2/2)
LCM - Ndombele

There is no way that we let him go this early... right? He's Dembele 2.0, someone with so much raw talent that it would kill me to see him leave Spurs too early. He has the potential to be one of the greatest CMs in the world, he just needs a few things (1/4)
Mou has said that he can't play Ndombele and GLC at the same time because there would be a lack of defensive presence in the squad - very true. We don't have the DM that we need right now to allow him to play this way (that's why Hojberg coming in will allow Mou to play (2/4)
The way that he wants, in that 4-3-3 set up. Knowing that, I'm not so sure we will see Ndombele feature a lot with GLC this season, which is sad, but understandable. I know Ndombele has the quality - his first game against Villa he turned the game on its' head. He is a guy (3/4)
That I want to see succeed so badly, and I really think that he will at Spurs. He just needs time and a tactic that allows him to play freely, something that I believe will happen in 20/21. I wouldn't believe the news about him leaving this early, it's too soon. (4/4)
LW - Son

I'll say this, I was underwhelmed after seeing Son's first season in 2015. That being said, he is transforming into one of the best LW in the league. He's a fantastic player that has improved so much and is key to the counter-attacking style Mou wants to play (1/2)
He's one of the first names on the team sheet for me. The only gripe is that sometimes he comes and goes during games - he's already improving defensively under Mou, and I'm really looking forward to a full season of him in our new front 3.
RW - Bergwijn

A few days ago, Mou said that Bergwijn wasn't his first choice for the January window, but I'm sure glad he has come to spurs. Bergy has shown during his short time with Spurs that he is superstar in the making. Only 22 (22!!!) and already he is able to (1/2)
Take the game by the scruff of the neck. For me, he's an improvement on Lucas and he's more selfless, a trait you need to be a part of a great front 2 (I.E. see Liverpool's). Ever since the goal against City, he's had my heart. He's got it all, a player to get you standing (2/2)
ST - Kane MBE

Who else? 136 goals in 200 games, second-most behind Aguero's 137. He's the only player I want leading the line, someone that I will tell my kids "I watched Kane play back in the day". He's one of our own and I can't imagine watching Spurs without him playing (1/2)
Under Mou, I can see Kane fitting in well with the free-flowing, counter-attacking system. Kane dropping in to help start the counters and spraying passes to on running wingers is something we already know he can do. Add Son and Bergy to that, and we have a recipe for goals (2/2)
I'll continue this thread either today or tomorrow, getting more into our bench options and who I think will leave Spurs in the summer window. For now, enjoy and let me know what you think!
