Happy to start my day with @BC_ALA live - EJ Josey’s 1964 Charge: Keep On Pushing!
PS: If you did not learn about EJ Josey, BCALA, or the segregation of libraries in library school...it’s time to learn and ask your MLIS program why it’s not part of the curriculum! #alavirtual20

In 1936 ALA annual was held in Richmond, Virginia, a segregated city. Black librarians could not enter the conference. ALA passes a resolution to no longer hold conferences in segregated cities - @MstrNclusionist points out this is very progressive at the time #BCALAKeeponPushing
Wow. I did not know that EJ Josey LEFT LIBRARIANSHIP for a little while because of the racism he experienced. To be clear - surprised that he left & came back - not surprised at the racism. #ALAvirtual20 #BCALAKeeponPushing
At 1964 ALA he presented a resolution that ALA shouldn’t be affiliated w the 4 segregated state library associations (he couldn’t join the Georgia Lib Association). Responses were apparently wild, but it did pass! Active individuals can make change in orgs #BCALAKeeponPushing
We are now in Jim Crow 3.0: New Millenium Jim Crow. Timeline photo: 2017 Charlottesville & Travel Ban, 2018 Caravans and Cages & Border Wall, 2020 COVID 19 & increase in capturing/broadcasting racial injustice #BCALAKeeponPushing #ALAvirtual20
