Yesterday we were beaten, tear-gassed at the @AuroraPD Headquarters during a peaceful protest for Elijah McClain. @AuroraPD lied to the public by claiming that protesters armed themselves with rocks & sticks. During this time, officers with no identification/badge numbers *illegal began to assemble to the front of the lines. These officers weren’t present before & had gas masks on. We believe they had the intention to use chemical agents the entire time the protesters were protesting
During this time, the unidentified officers were preparing to march towards our peaceful protest. @AuroraPD declared that we were unlawfully assembling & have stepped across the fence. Protesters were only chanting, “hands up, don’t shoot.” #AuroraPD
During this time, officers began to march towards us. I muted this part due to the fact i was calling out a protester by name. Young people were in front & were hit with billy clubs. We pleaded that they were not doing anything & asked @AuroraPD to stop. #PoliceBrutality
During this time, chemical agents were used at unarmed protesters. @AuroraPD began to form a line surrounding the headquarters.
During this time, @AuroraPD began to march again with no care of the unarmed young women & men. Billy clubs were aimed at the stomach of the protesters. Chemical canisters were aimed at the face of protesters & many protesters were carried off the field for medical help @9NEWS
During this time, tension was high between the protesters & officers. However no physical harm was done to any of the officers, only words were shouted. “War criminals” #Auroraprotest #PoliceBrutalityPandemic
During this time, @AuroraPD began to again use chemical agents at the unarmed protesters. We witnessed cameramen repeatedly being sprayed in the face by canisters. Again many were rushed off the field for medical assistance. @DenverChannel @KDVR
During this time, @AuroraPD continued to march on towards the unarmed protesters & use chemical agents. We were pushed to the parking lot. Many, including myself had felt the effects of the chemical agents as they lingered in the air. Children were present at the protest as well.
@AuroraMayorMike you thanked @AuroraPD for it’s leadership & lied to the public by claiming protesters were allowed to peaceful protest. That is a lie & you should resign. @AuroraPD you broke the law & endangered your own citizens, you should be ashamed & abolished.
