Highly-placed GoI source on possible Ind mil response: “The view in the Government is that if you start thinking of consequences, you will not be able to move forward.”

GoI source is on the mark here: always worrying about consequences can ensure you are paralyzed & others take advantage. For stability, both sides must worry about consequences, not just one. Good that GoI is beginning to think along these lines; necessary for deterrence. 2/5
OTOH, some issues, not so much re consequences but re preparations: 1) offensive mil response assumes capabilities & preparations/plans for such action are ready. Ind mil force on LAC appears defensively oriented. Can it take the offensive? I don't know. I suppose. . . 3/5
. . . a short-offensive (F4-F8?) may be possible before returning to a def crouch? 2) But have to also account for possibility of escalation to full-scale war (or is the idea to goad Chi into an ill-thought out offensive)? Point is, Ind should be fully ready for war . . . 4/5
. . . before such talk, which I hope it is. My fear --I earnestly hope I am wrong -- is that GoI thinks such talk itself might deter Chi (it won’t), or make it amenable to compromise (again, it won’t). 5/5
