I removed identifying info from this because I know their intention was good, and I don’t want anyone to dogpile them. But we get this a lot, and I wanted to address it.

Abled people should not be trying to police how disabled people refer to themselves. (1/5)
“Disabled” is NOT a dirty word.
The only negative connotations attached to it are because of ABLED PEOPLE.

Many of us do consider ourselves “defined,” at least in some way, by our disabilities AND THAT IS NOT NEGATIVE OR PESSIMISTIC OR WRONG.

I’ve taken polls on this, on every social media platform, and the results are always OVERWHELMINGLY:
The majority of disabled people prefer to simply be called “Disabled.”

While the majority of abled people, when asked, preferred to USE person-first language... 🧐

(3/5)
Person-first language is just A Thing™ abled people started pushing so they could feel like they were contributing to a problem that never actually existed in the first place.

(4/5)
Please keep in mind that the majority is not ALL.
When you are speaking with individual disabled folks about these matters, just ask them what they prefer.

But definitely don’t tell disabled people what is and isn’t appropriate to call themselves.

Lol well, they blocked me 🤷🏻‍♀️
I was even being nice on purpose 😂

Look... Advocacy isn’t for show.
If you get called out by the people for whom you’re advocating, because you were doing something problematic, just LISTEN. LEARN. COURSE-CORRECT. CARRY ON.

That’s it. That’s all.
