I am exceedingly grateful for America, the nation that God providentially gave to me. She is as broken as she is beautiful, but I still appreciate the benefits and “privileges” I enjoy because of my citizenship which so many fought and died for me to have.
My “shorties” (kids) are just beginning to grasp the paradox of America, her feats and her flaws; he mega riches and moral bankruptcies. They revel in the freedoms that have been obtained by the blood of men like Crispis Attucks and MLK, along with whites and other sacrificers.
As we navigate this current moment, where the nation and even the world is embracing the truth that “black lives matter,” my family celebrate God’s common grace on this country, and seek its peace like Jeremiah told Israel in Jer 29:7.
We believe that we are Americans by God’s sovereign design. So we will find ways to protest were appropriate, but also “pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.l Like Paul told Timothy we will be thankful to God
And we will intercede for our Presidents, whoever they may be, so we may lead a peaceful & quiet life, godly & dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
America, you can give off the impression that “special grace” has been shed on they because you’re so righteous. My experience leads me to believe that God’s “common grace,” has been shed on thee, for which their is no boasting. After all,...
the Father “makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matt 5:45).
This Independence Day imperfectly yet resoundingly reminds us of the joy of freedom and the glory of the God who sent Jesus who sets free. The food, the fun, the frolicking and the fireworks are all just bonuses.
Freedom is the true gem and any measure of it I experience now is only a foretaste of the abundance I have in Jesus Christ. If King could say it in ‘63 then the Branch family, and all those who are in Christ can say it now—
“Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
