Some good news this week. You may remember Holyrood reporting that at least 60 families awaiting asylum applications across Scotland were left unable to access the internet or school resources at the start of lockdown...
Well some very clever tech people found out, and decided to do something about it. So people from @YoungScot, @digiscot, @CivTechScotland and the @ScotTechArmy got together and provided devices and digital support to the families...
And then the @ScotTechArmy, which is made up of volunteers from digital/tech centre, formed rapid response units aimed at giving digital support to good orgs. They have now helped over 70 orgs from across Scotland which need help with digital stuff through the pandemic
One example was the Govan Community Project, which supports asylum seekers w services such as food banks, women’s groups & language lessons. The Tech Army helped it move services online, while helping prepare devices for the folk who needed them.
Here's more info on their work https://www.holyrood.com/news/view,tech-volunteers-launch-covid-response and here is the news piece I was talking about at the start of the thread https://www.holyrood.com/news/view,exclusive-child-asylum-seekers-left-completely-isolated-during-lockdown_15446.htm So great work tech people. It really cheered me up!
