I went to law school to become a public defender. I thought I was radical when I graduated from my public interest school. I was wrong.

I was radicalized my first arraignment shift when I watched a woman take 60 days on Rikers island for stealing a fucking snickers bar.
And by the way, if you read this and think to ask “what was the rap sheet like” I want you to stop typing, and ask yourself why does it fucking matter.

The charge was petit larceny of a snickers from a rite aid.
Why did the lawyer plead her out? Because businesses like rite aid and Macy’s have pseudo relationships with the cops here. If there was a trespass at some rite aid in the past, whoever wrote the case up in ecab probably threatened to indict it as a burglary.
