This disturbing video is part of Beijing's effort to dilute the Uyghur population by pushing Han-Uyghur marriage. https://twitter.com/PDChina/status/1282411911615778819
As I write in my book #BetrayingBigBrother, Xinjiang officials have for years offered bonuses to inter-ethnic couples with one Han Chinese partner marrying a member of an ethnic minority.
Amid growing evidence of cultural and demographic genocide in Xinjiang, these inter-ethnic marriage "bonuses" appear to be threats: marry a Han Chinese partner or pay a terrible price. https://twitter.com/LetaHong/status/1277570652447309827?s=20

Many people seem to think that the People's Daily video of a Uyghur man dating a Han Chinese woman is just a sweet, interracial love story. I myself am mixed race and of course if a young Uyghur Muslim chooses on their own to marry a Han Chinese partner, that is perfectly fine.
I'm trying to add to this thread and it keeps getting rejected
Twitter is not letting the original AP story go through so I'm using an ABC news link instead. AP and scholar @adrianzenz found new evidence that the Chinese government is carrying out a mass campaign to slash births among Uyghur and other Muslim women: https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/china-cuts-uighur-births-iuds-abortion-sterilization-71546146
“It's genocide, full stop. It’s not immediate, shocking, mass-killing on the spot type genocide, but it’s slow, painful, creeping genocide,” says @j_smithfinley https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/china-cuts-uighur-births-iuds-abortion-sterilization-71546146
Beijing has tried for years to curb reproduction among Uyghur and other Muslim women, as I write in my book, Betraying Big Brother: The Feminist Awakening in China.
Eugenics is a key part of China’s population engineering. Even as officials urge “high quality” Han Chinese women to marry and get pregnant, they have since at least 2015 tightened birth restrictions on “low quality” Uyghur and other ethnic minority women.
As I write in Betraying Big Brother, Xinjiang authorities invoked “ethnic equality” in 2017 to announce that they were ending the decades-long policy of allowing Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities to have one child more than families from the Han majority.
A senior Chinese official justified the 2017 tightening of birth restrictions on ethnic minorities by saying southern Xinjiang had serious problems with “poverty, rapid population growth and serious public health deficiency.”
Remember, back in 2015 another senior Communist Party official said the government needed to combat “worryingly high birth rates” in southern Xinjiang, which was bad for “the population quality in the region, posing risks to social stability.”
This gets back to the centrality of eugenics in China's population engineering. Communist Party officials consider the "population quality" to be bad if births are high among "undesirable" Uyghur, Kazakh and other Muslims. 'China has amped up long-standing policies of utilizing neighbors to spy on Uyghurs...Communist Party cadres are incentivized by the government to move into Uyghur homes under a “double relatives” program to supervise the family.' https://bitterwinter.org/uyghur-women-persecuted-will-the-feminists-support-them/?source=tt
"For most [Uyghur] women, whose husbands are in the concentration camps or Chinese prisons, this creates environments where the women are vulnerable to sexual abuse, as many of these cadres have been photographed and filmed sharing their beds." https://bitterwinter.org/uyghur-women-persecuted-will-the-feminists-support-them/?source=tt
'There is no way to view this other than as government-sponsored mass rape of an entire race of women with the express purpose of “breeding” the Uyghurs bloodline away' - @RushanAbbas https://bitterwinter.org/uyghur-women-persecuted-will-the-feminists-support-them/?source=tt
But limiting births among Uyghur and other Muslim women is only part of Beijing’s eugenics-minded plan to boost China’s “population quality”. As I write in my book, China has a new propaganda campaign to drive up plummeting birth rates among “high quality” (ie Han Chinese) women.
Under the new “two-child policy,” China’s propaganda has become even more aggressive about pushing college-educated, Han Chinese women in their twenties to marry and have babies. “Don’t miss out on women’s best years for getting pregnant!” warn some headlines in state media.
If you don't have time to read my book Betraying Big Brother, here's my @nytimes op-ed from 2018 about eugenics and China's effort to boost plummeting births among Chinese women: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/20/opinion/china-women-birthrate-rights.html
While the Chinese state is forcing Uyghur and other Muslim women to be sterilized or have abortions, it's bombarding Han Chinese women with propaganda like this about the glories of having more babies: https://twitter.com/LetaHong/status/998598871113596928?s=20
Meanwhile, look at this chilling AP graph showing birth rates in mostly Uyghur regions of Hotan and Kashhar fell nearly 24% last year, compared with 4.2% nationwide.
As I write in my book "Betraying Big Brother", the women who DO want more babies (Uyghur, Kazakh etc) are prevented through coercive policies from doing so, while the government's targeted group for MORE babies - Han Chinese women - increasingly don't want any babies at all.
In my 2014 book, Leftover Women, I also write about eugenics and the origins of China’s massive propaganda campaign to push single, educated women in their twenties (called “leftover” or “shengnu” 剩女) into getting married and having babies.
China’s State Council issued a 2007 edict on “unprecedented population pressures,” citing the “low quality of the general population, which makes it hard to meet the requirements of fierce competition for national strength.” It named “upgrading population quality” as a key goal.
If you don't have time to read my books, here's my 2012 @nytimes op-ed, "China's Leftover Women" https://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/12/opinion/global/chinas-leftover-women.html
Once you've read my books "Leftover Women" and "Betraying Big Brother", you'll see why the People's Daily video about the Han-Uyghur couple is disturbing. Also, I have been plagiarized several times dating back to my PhD research in 2010 so if this is useful, please CITE MY WORK.

How can Uyghurs say no to sexual overtures from Han Chinese people if they want to avoid retribution? Especially if the Chinese person is part of the "relatives 亲戚" program, where Xinjiang authorities require Uyghurs to host Chinese and often sleep in the same bed?
