you can make comics in places other than the direct market, y'all! the DM isn't even paying you well! they're not giving you health insurance or benefits or even decent page rates! i have friends making obscure webcomics who get paid more for 12 pages a month than you do!
fucking - care about your own well being *beyond* 'i need to salvage my extremely poorly compensated work with this horribly exploitative company that doesn't care about buddying up to bigots'. there are other avenues out there for making comics!
fucking have solidarity with each other that extends beyond 'stop being mean to us for working with a bunch of bigots and not even being willing to talk about it that publicly 9 times out of 10'. there is so much more out there you can do for yourself than this shit!
i hear about the fucking BOOM page rates, not only exploiting fresh faces but also industry vets and i think 'this is what you motherfuckers are all ride or die for'? this fucking garbage industry where you own nothing, get no royalties, have no benefits, get paid jack shit?
christ almighty i know i've been posting a million goddamn angry tweets about the comics industry but one of the most infuriating things in it is this widespread attitude of learned helplessness combined with defensiveness over an inability or unwillingness to change anything!
or if you feel obligated to stay in this shithouse industry that treats you like garbage, just fucking instead of keeping your heads down, spill your guts to mainstream outlets reporting on this shit to cause mass scrutiny so as to affect change!
this was a crucial part of how shit got changed about berganza! about allie! about brownstein and more! fuck this 'everyone be nice to us' shit, there's shit you can actually do to deal with this problem of your industry being rife with bigots, abusers, and exploiters!
