3 am thought: an editor made me cut the word "cacophony" from a piece because she never heard it before.... I have regretted it ever since. For what the word means, it is still one of my favourite words.

I think this speaks to the power that editors sometimes wield. Because sometimes there is a power struggle and I’ll say it: not all editors are healthy. I’ve worked with some amazing ones and they have helped me grow. But this one in particular was damaging in multiple ways.

it wasn’t just about the word, but by the time we came to it I was tired of fighting for basic respect and let cacophony go. Makes me wonder how many people have traumatic experiences with editors haha
