I’ve seen this drawing passed around and I think it’s a good time we learn about artistic nudity! This drawing of Lucy Steel on the cover of SBR Volume 13 indeed falls into that category! Here’s a short thread explaining why!
Lucy Steel is seen in a posture reminiscent of the statue “Capitoline Venus” and the painting “The birth of Venus”. If you’ll notice all three of these artworks have similar eye position, posture, and overall tone. Those are what convey artistic nudity!
The placement of the hands signify a feeling of modesty as they’re all covering up their breasts and genitals. This is a sign that this wasn’t made for sexual gratification. A more sexual piece might have a more open stance, possibly with spread legs.
If you notice, they’re all looking away. Conveying a sense of tranquility in their features. This says that the purpose of the artwork isn’t for us. It’s simply a candid photo of a scene. A more sexual piece may have the subject looking directly at us, inviting us in.
Not all pieces will have hands covering their genitals and that is alright, it is still artistic nudity so long as it invokes candidness or a natural feeling.
This is the end of the thread, word wise. I will continue to post pieces that would be considered artistic nudity. Try to understand what I mean by the candidness, tranquility, and posture.
