20 years ago on this date (22nd July), I packed a bag, hopped on a train and began a week long adventure.
I was 16 and it was my first time travelling by train alone.
My destination, Penrith in the Lake District.

My destination, Penrith in the Lake District.
I would spend a week on the shores of Ullswater doing various activities at the Outward Bound center.
I would be with other people my age doing these activities and working as a team to overcome many challenges.

This was my first time working with people I didn't know and had never met before.
There were good times and a few bad times but overall the week was enjoyable.
The highlight of the week was sleeping in a cave after climbing Cat Bells.

Other activities included canoeing, orienteering, rock climbing and abseiling, raft building, zip line (I didn't do) and Jacob's ladder.
And, on the first morning we had to do a half mile jog and then jump in the lake (a tradition apparently).

Did I enjoy my week away doing these activities? Yes, I did.
However, my self confidence wasn't that great and I did shy away from the more difficult tasks.
The Outward Bound course was a treat for me for finishing my GCSE exams.
I still have the certificate and course report.

Would I have done the course again? Yes, I would and I did, 7 months later at another center with new people.
I still have photos from the second time I went.
