Do you ever wonder how NOAA Research gets our research done?
Our office is made up of 10 labs and 7 programs, all full of people who are conducting and supporting research! Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be introducing you to these labs and programs.

First up: NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Lab (PMEL).
PMEL holds down the NOAA Research fort in the #PacificNorthwest, doing research on the ocean and its interactions with the earth, atmosphere, ecosystems and climate.
PMEL holds down the NOAA Research fort in the #PacificNorthwest, doing research on the ocean and its interactions with the earth, atmosphere, ecosystems and climate.
Scientists in PMEL & @NOAAFisheries' EcoFOCI program study the health of Alaskan and North Pacific ocean ecosystems + fisheries. Their data helps scientists and resource managers understand fish populations’ current status and predict how it might change.

Scientists at PMEL also study how noise from ship traffic, industry, storms and more affects the marine ecosystem.
Understanding how much noise different areas of the ocean are exposed to is key to getting a picture to the ocean’s overall health.

This is just a tiny piece of what PMEL scientists work on each day! Learn more about PMEL: https://www.pmel.noaa.gov/
