Dear @spps_news community - Last night the following headline was chosen to describe a near 3-hour presentation related to our 2020-21 Reopening plans: “Classes twice a week, parents driving to school: St. Paul district details plans for hybrid instruction” 1/
Please allow me to clarify “Classes twice a week” In guidelines received from our state leaders, school districts in the state of MN were tasked with creating a model of hybrid instruction. 2/
In ours, students would receive in-person instruction 2-days a week and distance learning 3-days. I should add that our plan is not for hybrid learning, it is one of the three scenarios we were tasked to create. A plan that we may consider. 3/
“Parents driving to school” if you observed the full discussion this conversation started with concerns about the volume of children on busses and the availability of enough drivers. 4/
A member of my team made the following points: 1) Some SPPS families will choose 100% online learning for the school year and will not need transportation 5/
2) some families may not feel comfortable with transportation and will opt to drive their student(s). Families driving was mentioned only as feedback we’ve heard from our community and in conversations with districts around the country. 6/
If we implement any in-person instruction, transportation will be provided to all who qualify. 7/
I have also received considerable feedback about our current plans for considering that all students wear face coverings (masks). 8/
We continue to collaborate with local and state officials and plan to update our guidelines to ensure our students, staff and families can remain as safe and healthy as possible End/
