#BC #Covid19 July 22 update - Number of new cases per day is creeping upwards. Good news: Doubling time estimated from July 1 is much lower (~15 days) than early days of COVID (~2-5 days), a sign that BC's distancing measures and contact tracing are substantially slowing spread.
Age distribution has significantly shifted over the summer, with many more youth and young adults succumbing to COVID-19.
Number in hospital, ICU, & deaths do not show similar upward trends in #BC. Elsewhere, those curves follow weeks later, as people with severe cases get progressively sicker and the disease spreads from younger individuals to older household & community members.
Bad news: Doubling time of ~15 days was pretty much where Arizona was in early June and that exponential growth has now led AZ to >150,000 cases. How do we avoid that in #BC? We need to break the chain of transmission after each outbreak: pull back on # of contacts & wear masks🙏
