(1/6) Last Friday at #europython during Q&A with @gvanrossum(Creator of Python), he was asked - 'You're an inspiration for many of us, what would be your message or advice on life and career for a young programmer/ software engineer?"
(2/6) His reply was really touching for me personally since it resonated very well to I've been doing since the start of my studies/early career. It has got me to really re-evaluate the priorities and go beyond the general notion of keep grinding to win.
(3/6) Quoting Guido- "My approach and I'm incredibly lucky that it worked out so well - Make sure you have fun, join the project that you find most interesting and fun to do. Place that over what is perhaps the most lucrative(there can be many ways in which you can evaluate jobs)
(4/6) ... If I didn't want to do something, I'd not do it. If I want to do something which other people think I shouldn't do, I might still do it. After all, that is how #Python came into being.
(5/6)...At the same time, I've been looking back at my life and I'd say I definitely work too hard. 30 years of being Python's BDFL haven't been great for my family. I've spent almost every day at the office and every night...
(6/6)...I'd be spending(including many hours during weekends or most weekends) time thinking about Python stuff. That level of taking your work home with you, I don't think is good. So, have fun but make sure to let yourself be distracted by aspects of life besides work."
