I'm trying not to get excited because it's a few weeks earlier than I anticipated hatching to start, but one of the painted turtle eggs in my incubator opened and a very small turtle is moving.

Mom painted turtle was hit by a car on June 9th and laid her eggs in the box while on her way to me. She survived, her shell was stabilized, and she's been healing in the turtle bus. I wasn't expecting the eggs to hatch until mid-August, so I'm hoping this baby is okay.
I guess it isn't a fluke because 2 more have started hatching. 
Progress report: Turtles hatch as slowly as they do everything else. The cracks are widening on the other two eggs.

Hatching still proceeding slowly. Two legs free and head out more until I try to take a picture. Egg tooth visible (the white speck in the middl of his face). The other two eggs also open a bit more.
A fourth turtle egg is opening! I am going to have a very hard time focusing on teaching yoga classes this morning. Glad they are virtual so I can keep my eye on the container of eggs too.
Number 5 pipped during yoga class and number 6 an hour ago. The whole clutch is hatching!

Had to take a break to get a very little snapping turtle with a very bad head injury. 
Back on hatch watch now. This is about as exciting as it gets.

Since the others started hatching I've been keeping an eye on this one - the only intact egg I was able to recover from a painted turtle who was crushed on the road. And, sure enough, this happened two hours ago.

Morning hatch check showed everyone is progressing. The upper left hatchling turned around inside the shell. Maybe took a look at 2020 and decided to go back in.
