reasons why matthew fairchild might get his marks stripped;
he’s not on the family tree. yes cassie has stated that it’s incorrect but some aspects are still correct. shadowhunters who have their runes stripped cannot have contact with their families.
both magnus and jem have stated that they have once watched someone get their marks stripped which it would have been someone they were close to as in matthew fairchild.
it makes sense for jem to be part of these types of ceremonies as he was a silent brother but it doesn’t make that much sense for magnus unless he has a connection with the person.
at first i thought maybe he would die but cassie has mentioned that she wouldn’t kill off her lgbt characters so the dying theory is unlikely.
we know something bad will happen to few certain characters and it just makes sense it would be matthew? with everything he’s going through it doesn’t seem like things are gonna get better anytime soon??
another theory is that he could become a downworlder like a vampire. this would also explain why he’s not on the family tree this way he would die but not actually die. this also would be good for the plot.
there are more reasons like it would solve the love triangle, how something happening to him would have the most impact with other characters and the plot etc but we can get into those later :) :) :)
okay so apparently magnus was at the institute during the time edmund herondale’s marks were stripped so it could be based on edmund but there is a possibility it could be about matthew as well.
