The construction happening right in Red Hook, was a result of Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and has taken 8 years to begin. Originally, the plan was to start construction on the East side and progress to the West side but instead the entire community was torn up.
In the midst of a pandemic, Red Hook residents have lost ball fields, the playgrounds, the basketball courts, and the benches all at once!!! “Where did the trees go?” One resident asked. #LetRedHookBreathe #FullyFundRedHookHouses
We call on Congresswoman @NydiaVelazquez , Council Member @NYCCouncil38 , Assembly Member @FelixWOrtiz, and the NYCHA Federal Monitor to immediately STOP the construction work taking place within Red Hook Houses in order to address urgent health and safety concerns.
