#Autohebdo Vasseur: Hungaroring is a complicated track as you can't overtake. So when you start from the back, it's unforgiving... It's a shame because the pace in the race was really good. Kimi wasn't helped either by the 5 sec penalty which made him lose contact with the group
of Ocon, Norris and others. We know in part where our deficit comes from but it's essential that we understand why we're not able to match the pace of AlphaTauri or Renault in quali. We have to understand, because we won't get away with starting from the back of the grid.
#Autohebdo Did you think you would suffer so much?

Vasseur: We hadn't had the chance to drive and we arrived at the Austrian GP without really knowing what to expect. We had a couple of things in production when we left for Melbourne and we took them to Spielberg. It's obviously
not enough. We're pretty good in terms of race pace but in qualifying, it's a disaster.

#Autohebdo Does the series of races make any hope of getting back into the points vain?

Vasseur: We're suffering from a real performance deficit in qualifying, which everyone can see, but
that shouldn't make us nervous. We have to stay calm, not overreact to try to understand, because it doesn't work like that. We have to be realistic, we're going to drag this handicap along until we manage to make better use of this qualifying package.
It's going to take some time, because there's also a form of uncertainty linked to the budget. We don't know how much money we're going to lose and we have to tighten our belts until we have better clarity on the calendar, on the number of races.
Does the solution also come from Ferrari?

Vasseur: There's 1 part that is in our hands and a 2nd that is not. On the part that concerns us, we can correct it fairly quickly. If we manage to qualify a few rows higher, that would allow us to progress in the points.
Kimi has seen a lot during his long career, but doesn't this difficult start to the season make him a little demotivated?

Vasseur: That's certainly not the word I would use in view of his race in Hungary. His pace was really good. After that, there's no point in hiding the fact
that when you start on the last row in Budapest and you take a 5 sec penalty during the pit-stop that makes you fall back last, it's hard to imagine a more unlikely scenario.
Speaking of unlikely scenarios, is the return of Sergio Perez to Hinwil one of them?

Vasseur: Come on, get serious! We're in the middle of 6 races in a row and the priority is to get ourselves back on track rather than go and discuss 2021 with the drivers.
The market is not going to change in the coming weeks, at least as far as the one we're all looking at is concerned. We're concentrating on the work we have to do, and we'll see what happens afterwards.
How was the atmosphere during the 3 weeks?

Vasseur: Definitely special. Same motivation, same approach to the race, there was no difference at this level. As for the rest.. I'm used to talking with guests, journalists & guys from other teams and it made me as unhappy as a stone.
We're not singers, but we do all this for the show, for the spectators.

It's good to drive, everyone is happy to be back in the race, but the whole weekend is dictated by the health protocol and it's a bit heavy.
Well, we all know that we can't make any mistakes, that the slightest incident would be dramatic. So we have to accept and be happy with what we have. #Vasseur #AlfaRomeoRacing #Autohebdo
