With your patience & my late-night snarkiness in last night's tweets set aside, I'd like to respond with earnestness & respect to replies insisting it doesn't matter what color Jesus was. (I wasn't referring to art but to some ongoing honest-to-goodness claims he was white.) ...
I understand exactly what many of you meant in that it was the red blood of Jesus shed for our sins that saves us and not the color of his skin. I certainly agree with that. But to say the color of his skin doesn't matter is to disregard part of the eternal & perfect plan of God.
Hebrews 10:5 "Therefore, as he was coming into the world, he said: You did not desire sacrifice and offering, but you (GOD) prepared a body for me (Jesus)." God prepared that exact body for Jesus. He could've conceived that body in a woman's womb from any country, culture or age.
God chose that very one before time began. It was deliberate, not haphazard. Then, "When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law that we might receive adoption as sons." (Gal.4:4-5)
If the psalmist could say of his own body (& I believe of ours) that it was fearfully, wonderfully made, how much more divine intention went into fashioning the body of God's only begotten Son? "For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
...My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began. How precious are your thoughts to me!"
That exact body is the one that would take the beating, the spitting, the slashes of the whip, the crown of thorns, the hammer & the nails. That very body would hang on the cross until it breathed its last. THAT BODY. That brown Middle Eastern body. It matters. His body matters.
