COVID-19 cases in Colorado are up for a sixth week. Short thread about what we do and don't know. https://www.denverpost.com/2020/07/28/colorado-coronavirus-covid-cases-new-high/
New cases are higher than they were at the previous peak in April. Testing capacity is better than it was in April, though, so they're catching more mild cases.
Hospitalizations appear to have plateaued around 240-250 in the last week. Higher than June, but not threatening to overwhelm hospitals. Death data lags, so it's difficult to say what's going on, but no sign of a major increase there at this point.
The big question is where we're going. One sign that cases might start to fall was that there was a spike of people reporting their symptoms started July 6 (not clear why). So one possibility is we're still seeing reported cases from whatever happened then.
But data on when people say their symptoms started lags by 1-2 weeks. So we really don't know if July 6 was an isolated spike, or if people are continuing to get sick. That makes it hard to predict where we're headed.
But even if July 6 was an aberration, there's still wide enough circulation of the virus in Colorado that experts say we can't relax on distancing and mask-wearing. End of thread.
