Thread of BC towns where the Main Street is a provincial highway. Here are some streetview pics , along w issues: 1) inability to use some of ROW for public pocket parks for C19 distancing, 2) inability to reduce speeds from 50kmh to 30, 3) truck volume, 4) no bike/scooter lanes
Burns Lake BC. Highway 16 runs right through with some efforts made to improve safety and comfort, such as crossing island and bulb-outs where street parking ends.
Clinton BC, where Highway 97 is the same as their Main Street. Efforts made to reduce speeds at intersections with bulb-outs at 4-way stops and crossings.
Creston BC with Highway 3 as the Main Street. Some nice efforts to narrow the road with bulb-outs at the end of street parking and at intersections/crossings. You can see how hard it would be to add COVID patios/parks on this main street (if it were even allowed)
Greenwood BC with Highway 3 as the Main Street. You can see a brand new bulb-out and crossing under construction, with wider sidewalks, planting area.
Keremeos, also on Highway 3. Looks like some newer crossing areas with no road paint yet. Tactile crossing strips installed.
Oliver BC also on Highway 97. Very wide ROW with street parking. Sine recent bulb-out upgrades, but the kind that puts people using wheelchairs right into the intersection not the crosswalk...
Osooyos BC with Highway 3 running down Main Street has angle parking, which we haven't seen yet, and a super wide ROW with very narrow sidewalks. Loads of room for street patios/parks if were allowed (they aren't b/c highways)
Powell River with Highway 1 functioning as the Main Street. Opportunity for some bulb-outs and safer/more comfortable crossings.

Lots of communities bisected by a highway, but the main retail areas were off the highway. Some really bad American-style highways with frontage road services too. Just included ones where hwy is the main street.
