I've had DMs asking about the scoring differences between #FPL and @Fanteam_UK's new season-long million euro game, and the impact of these changes on the initial team selection strategy.

Here are 5 things I like (and 1 change I don't)

👇
1) Familiarity
There are many familiarities here for any manager to be immediately comfortable. Playing time, goals scored, clean sheets, assists and penalties saved all remain the same. The same goes for negative points (cards and OG's).

However, there are some differences. 👇
2) No bonus points.
The marmite of FPL. Fanteam removes bonus in favour of a period bonus of 1 point if the player's team is winning when he is on the pitch (and -1 if they are losing).

IMPACT: Players on winning teams get extra points more often.
3) Save points awarded for individual saves.
This is a big (and welcome) change for managers, as keepers from top clubs will sometimes make 2 saves and get no additional points in FPL. Here, saves are worth 0.5 each.

IMPACT: Keepers at top clubs have more scoring potential.
4) Assists and Fantasy assist score 3 points.
There seems to be a far more definitive take on awarding assists in this game compared with FPL. No "the ball deflected slightly". I want to see how this plays out but a very positive move.

IMPACT: Creative players score more points.
5) Fouls resulting in a Scored Free Kick or penalty score -2.
Not a massive fan of this because it feels like a double whammy, but thankfully we all have stats tables which show which players to avoid.

IMPACT: Some defenders become poorer picks in this game vs FPL.
6) Goalkeepers score 8 points for a goal.
Come on. Who isn't going to want 8 points from their goalkeeper who majestically rises like a salmon to score a 95th min winner?

So in closing...
...there are some fantastic similarities which means so much is familiar to new players and I welcome most, albeit not all, of the differences.

For skilled FPL managers, however, there is certainly one key takeaway...
I feel this scoring system heavily rewards the key component of the FPL experience - the skill in selecting those 11 players each and every week. This is massively exciting to me.
