Palpatine can't just declare himself Emperor, the Jedi will never stand for this

Look, I get it, he sucks, but at least the now-Imperial Senate will always be there as a check on his power
Look even WITH unchecked executive power it's not like he'd, I dunno, blow up an entire planet to eliminate his political opponents
Yesss! We managed to put an end to a single one of his superweapon plans! Now he has definitely learned his lesson and will never try that again
