This mth we’re featuring Dr. Jonathon Webber - @ILSMedical's Secretary - is a lifesaving force to be reckoned with! W/ over 30 years involvement in lifeguarding & #drowning prevention research, advocacy & commitment, we’re ++ lucky to have his expertise on our team! @aquasafenz
You may recognize his name, he’s one of the leaders who developed the #drowning #chainofsurvival. Like other #resuscitation mvmts, the response to drowning is a spectrum, that begins w/ #prevention and ends w/ CPR + Ventilations. Check out the work here: https://bit.ly/3374tJj
His work didn’t stop there however! He recently completed his DProf with a thesis entitled “Prevention | Rescue | Resuscitation – The influence of New Zealand lifeguarding practice on global drowning prevention”. Congrats Dr. Webber! Read his thesis: https://bit.ly/338tRhQ
Jonathon was ‘born’ into the world of lifesaving. He grew up near one of New Zealand’s most famous & dangerous beaches, and his grandfather was a member of the surf lifesaving club at Piha on #Auckland’s West Coast in 1940! #oglifeguard
His father joined the same Auckland surf lifeguard service, as did Jonathon. Making him a #thirdgen lifeguard! Fun fact: His dad only retired from active lg’ing @ 78 y/o —> next time no excuses when you feel too out of shape or old to do your recertification !! 
Dr. Webber also carried on his family’s #legacy by putting lg'ing knowledge and skills to the real test. He was awarded Rescue of the Year Award in 2007 after saving 3 surfers stuck on rock w/ 4-5m storm surf. An incredible feat & we’re glad that the surfers+him made it out ok!
Jonathon’s goal joining @ILSmedical was to bring a frontline lifeguard’s perspective to the operations & help improve the ‘real-world’ relevance of the #positionstatements. Now he hopes to increase the team's diversity & amplify new voices around the table. #growth
To round out Jonathon’s bio - a fun fact about him is that he loves British comedy - especially from the 70s/80s - and movies like Airplane & The Naked Gun! Even the most serious rescuer, needs to relax & laugh occasionally!
