To mention, this is not the first time Nigerian lawyers are voting electronically for national officers of the NBA. This is the third (2016, 2018 and 2020). With each cycle, there have been improvements. This time around, every voter got a unique link to vote by email or SMS.
With this approach, except your email or phone was hacked, no one will be able to vote for you without your consent. Virtually every lawyer can attest that the current results reflect the will of majority of the eligible voters.
This is the standard that we expect elections in Nigeria to take -- where the will of the people prevail and not the will of a few "godfathers" and thugs, whose only interest is their pockets and not that of the people generally.
Take Edo State as an example, most of the masses agree that @GovernorObaseki has done well enough to deserve a 2nd term.On the other hand, "godfathers" and thugs simply don't want him,not on grounds of non-performance. It is likely that the will of the latter group will prevail.
The new guy comes in and to remain relevant in power, he does the wishes of the "godfathers" and thugs to the detriment of the people just to remain in power. No country or system that puts the interest of a selfish few above that of the general good advances. Explains a lot!
Back to the NBA, the NBA has over the last decade or more failed significantly in the primary goal of "promoting the rule of law". The last two presidents have been, with due respect, unmitigated disasters in that regard. One wonders why. Gov't godfathers or self preservation?
The current voting pattern is attributable to broadly 3 reasons:
a. Olu's pedigree and vision is one that most lawyers can connect with.
b. Lawyers being tired of the poor performance of the previous presidents who were either litigators or SANs.
c. Awomolo letter effect.

One theme runs across these reasons -- change. Nigerian lawyers (& strangely, non-lawyers), want NBA to be be voice.
We have done our part in voting. @OlumideAkpata, we are now counting on you to be the change we seek!
Very many congrats, Olu!
