Happy FRIDAY
Hope you’ve had an awesome week so far!
After my blog post went a bit crazy yesterday a few people asked for advice on getting started with a blog.
So I though I’d share my top tips in a thread

Hope you’ve had an awesome week so far!
After my blog post went a bit crazy yesterday a few people asked for advice on getting started with a blog.
So I though I’d share my top tips in a thread

#100DaysOfCode #blog #DEVCommunity
1. DO IT
Don’t worry that someone’s written about the subject before or you don’t think you’ve got anything good to say. Everyone works differently and the way you word it might resonate with someone better. Try not to talk yourself out of it before you’ve even got started

2. BLOG FOR YOURSELF
Someone once said to me “blog for yourself” and it’s true if you force yourself to write just for other people it can feel like a chore and may make your writing less authentic. Write for your own enjoyment and if other people like it, it’s a bonus

3. PICK SOMETHING TO WRITE ABOUT
I’d suggest picking something you either really enjoyed or really struggled with and imagine how you can make that subject enjoyable and/or easier for other people to understand

4. IMAGINE TEACHING YOURSELF
If you’re writing to share knowledge imagine how you’d like to be taught. How a tutorial should be laid out/would you prefer it to be serious or witty, think of niggles you had when you were learning from another tutorial and try to better it

5. FIND YOUR AUDIENCE
If you want to write about development I’d suggest http://DEV.to . If you want to write about flowers or cars or dogs try to find a blogging platform relevant to that field, then you can share with people who can better interact with your posts

6. FIND A CHECKER
If you’re worried about the content of your post, need a second opinion on a certain element or imposter syndrome is getting the better of you, have someone sense/spell check your post before going live

7. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BLOG
If you’re writing and writing and can’t seem to get anywhere, maybe blogging isn’t for you. You could try vlogging or podcasting your content instead so don’t be disheartened!

8. NOT EVERYONE WILL LIKE IT
Everyone has a different learning style, reading is considered a bit old fashioned these days so don’t worry if not everyone likes it in written form. There will be other people that love it. And...you could always do a blog & a video

9. MOST IMPORTANTLY - ENJOY IT!
If it stops being fun, stop. To be a great developer, fashion designer, dog walker etc. you don’t have to be a great writer or a great teacher. Your time is precious so spend it on the things you enjoy
