I’m late to this, and I’m furious. YouTube cites that more channels are using 3rd party tools than this system, but they’ve adopted to doing this because the caption approval system is AWFUL.
So they’re eliminating the program rather than fixing it. https://twitter.com/liamodelluk/status/1288869766980042752

Great thread on how the system is flawed currently https://twitter.com/foldablehuman/status/1288940174726975488?s=21 https://twitter.com/foldablehuman/status/1288940174726975488
I greatly advocate that channels w/ the means to do so shouldn’t fully rely on volunteers to caption content. People should get paid to do that work.
BUT, community translations & the data behind who uses these translations helps creators understand which languages to invest in.

ALSO, those legacy media companies YouTube actively is trying to attract? Those with a significant percentage of watch time? Most already have captioning systems in place.
Just another platform update decision that once again affects dedicated, independent creators.

I’m hoping this new feature will allow creator to hire someone part time or allow trusted community members to volunteer, but again, this will likely only allow English captions to carry forward. https://twitter.com/liamodelluk/status/1288263489816072192
