I mailed a package this morning and I got some tea straight from a deeply frustrated postal worker. Louis DeJoy only took over in June, and she says she's never seen snarls like this before.
If there is "too much mail," they're supposed to leave it for the next day instead of dealing with it. That's the policy. If it's delayed at the distribution center, the carrier is now supposed to leave without it.
If you've ever worked anywhere, you have already had the key thought, which is "Won't that create an even bigger backlog tomorrow?"
YUP.
YUP.
That's the whole idea. The workers and carriers on the ground are well aware that DeJoy is trying to hopelessly tangle mail service. Their new boss is actively trying to kneecap the organization.
Her personal theory is that he's working ahead to make vote-by-mail look impossible. But it also sets up private couriers to eat that business.
…But private couriers won't deliver to rural areas. They hand that business off to... wait for it… the Post Office.

People in rural areas depend on the Post Office for all their mail -- including getting prescriptions by mail. This Trump/GOP plan screws them over harder than anyone. Isn't Trump supposed to be the one who really cares about rural Americans?
