1. saying an author can JUST write what they know (what they have experienced, about their own communities)
- this goes for people saying white cishet authors shouldn't write non-white cishet characters (and disabled and well anything that isn't considered the "normal")

there is a line between making work that actively mocks and diminishes a minority to stereotypes for the sake of it+
and just plain awful representation (which trust me i hate) and writing about a minority you're not part of. period.

it's important for authors (and any creative) to do research and consult with multiple people of the minority no matter what it is, while writing. +
this brings realness and depth to the character and situation

and OF COURSE it's much more real and always going to be better representation to have those characters written by someone who has EXPERIENCED it
but that doesn't mean people that haven't shouldn't write about it!!

a lot of authors can try their best and maybe they didn't have ill intentions but because of lack of research (which isn't a rule written+
in a guidebook!! it's important! but not everyone Immediately knows to do it so it's also important to SAY and ASK for them to do more research! not everyone has the same ideas!!!) authors can show characters with damaging stereotypes and culturally wrong things - in this case +
yes! call those out!!!

but always remember what you're dealing with, which is: FICTION.

for example,
tw // nazis?

i could feel like writing a story about a nazi sociopath that falls in love with a fucking fish and rides unicorns. and from his pov he sees every minority as +
trash and insults them and etc etc

can i write that? yes
is it offensive? yes
is it Wrong? No

and why is that? because it's not only fiction, it's ART.

art is abstract. art is making a sculpture out of rainbow eggshells in a parking lot to make a statement. art is writing +
about people you know nothing about because literature is an escape from ur mind

art ISN'T PERFECT
and it doesn't Have to be!

not every author writes a minority because they want an archetype (opposite of stereotype) to make a statement
sometimes minorities are just CHARACTERS+
and THIS is the problem!!!

white able-bodied cishet men are the only REAL people in our brainwashed minds

THIS is what needs to change

people need to write about a black girl in a wheelchair that just wants to fall in love. and the story to not fall around her color or +
her disability
i would love nothing More than someone to write a character that is like me and i give -2 fucks about what that author has gone through themselves.
even if it's not perfect representation. it doesn't ALWAYS have to show the minority as the BEST THING EVER +
just let us minorities exist

THIS is how we Normalize being different.

THIS is why we shouldn't gate keep what someone can or can't write about.
let people write and their characters say whatever the fuck they want.
let this characters not be "normal" for once +
what an author WRITES - DOESN'T represent what the author believes in! i genuinely don't understand how people think it's the same thing when it's So so different.
